Just who is the fastest player in the Premier League?
Unlike in sprinting, they don’t all line up against each other on the same day, on the same track and with the same weather conditions.
It’s a difficult one to measure, but arguably the best way is to record each players’ top sprint speeds during a season.

This has been done for the current campaign - even though it’s only seven matches old - and the results are quite surprising.
Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin is widely considered as one of the fastest players in the Premier League - indeed, he’s rated as the quickest player in England’s top flight on FIFA 17 - but he’s only recorded a top speed to put him in 10th place on this list, brought to our attention by the Mirror.

10 - Hector Bellerin (34.77 km/h)
Yep - a bit of a surprise, this one.
Bellerin isn’t miles away from the top speed recorded, but you’d expect him to be a little further up the list.
=8 - Maya Yoshida (34.78 km/h)
Who knew the Southampton centre-back is so rapid?
=8 - Theo Walcott (34.78 km/h)
Walcott will no doubt use this as proof that he is the quickest player at Arsenal after all.
7 - Wilfried Zaha (34.79 km/h)
The Palace winger has always been quick, but that’s a seriously impressive top speed.
6 - Eric Bailly (34.84 km/h)
What a signing Bailly has been for United. Not only is he as strong as an ox, but he’s lightning quick too.
5 - Andre Gray (34.87 km/h)
Putting his unfortunate social media activity to one side for a second, that’s a cracking top speed.
4 - Jamie Vardy (35.10 km/h)
Vardy turns 30 in January, but you’d never have known it by looking at his top speed from the early weeks of this season.
3 - Kyle Walker (35.18 km/h)
No real surprise, this one. Walker is easily one of the quickest players in the Premier League.
2- Lynden Gooch (35.19 km/h)
Few people had heard of Lynden Gooch before the start of the season, but the rapid American has been a regular in David Moyes’ Sunderland line-ups this term.
1 - Shane Long (35.31 km/h)
And in at first place it’s Southampton’s Shane Long, with a top speed of 35.31 km/h.
Usain Bolt would be proud of that!
