Ever since Bill Goldberg was revealed to be the pre-order bonus in the WWE 2K17 video game, it was widely speculated that he would return to take on the cover star, Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33.
Now it's quite a big deal when you’re an opponent for Lesnar, regardless of the pay-per-view.
The company will be looking to erase the memories of earlier this year when The Beast Incarnate defeated Dean Ambrose in a forgettable match.

Regardless of fans and backstage personnel wanting Goldberg and Lesnar to have their WrestleMania XX rematch at the same event, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has reported that Vince McMahon wants this match to take place at Survivor Series, as he has another opponent in mind for Lesnar.
Survivor Series is the closest event to the release of WWE 2K17, so Vince wants SmackDown Live commissioner Shane McMahon to be Lesnar’s opponent instead next year in Orlando, while Goldberg vs. Lesnar helps promote the video game.
He said: "[WWE] already has plans for [Brock Lesnar] that they’re not changing. Whatever they are, and I guess Shane McMahon probably is if you watch TV and everything.
“Everybody’s going like [Lesnar vs. Goldberg] should be at WrestleMania, and I think with Vince [McMahon], he thinks Shane vs. Lesnar should be at WrestleMania.”
Vince usually gets what he wants, and he should, it’s his company.
The angle kicked off at SummerSlam after Lesnar destroyed SmackDown’s Randy Orton, before delivering an F5 to Shane to conclude the night, leaving Monday Night Raw looking like the superior brand.
It was also suggested that Shane might bring in Goldberg to compete on his behalf, but by the looks of things, it doesn’t seem to be going that way.
Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe have also been rumoured to be potential picks by Shane, but considering he put on a great effort against The Undertaker earlier this year, he may be able to compete himself.
Especially since his Hell in a Cell match with The Deadman was a lot better than Lesnar’s clash with Ambrose.
With WrestleMania now only six months away, it’s time for the WWE to finalise their plans and at this stage, Shane looks to be the logical choice.
