What were you doing at the age of 14?
We know what we were doing, and it’s not nearly half as cool as what 14-year-old Mustafa Kapi is up to.
Handing debuts to players who have only just reached secondary school seems to be all the rage at the minute, with Kapi following in the footsteps of Celtic’s Karamoko Dembele by making his Galatasaray debut.
The teenager came on for two minutes in Galatasaray’s 2-0 friendly win against Levski Sofia on Saturday.
Scroll down to watch the moment the Turkish club hope will be the first of many memorable moments in the youngster’s career.
Kapi makes his senior debut
Earlier in the week, Celtic handed an U20s debut to Dembele, 13, against Hearts. Such is the hype around the wonderkid that FA chiefs are already planning on making him an England international, according to reports.
Galatasaray’s own starlet is a box-to-box midfielder with quite an impressive highlight reel. Check out his best moments, including a wonder goal from 30 yards, below.
And we thought England and Manchester United needed to be sensitive with Marcus Rashford’s development.
Rashford, 18, burst onto the scene earlier in the year and it’s clear by Jose Mourinho’s treatment that the United boss has the long-term in mind. He became a regular starter under Louis van Gaal, but has started only three Premier League games this season.
And Gareth Southgate named Rashford on the bench for England’s 2-0 win against Malta.
Given how careful both parties have been with Rashford - former England boss Sam Allardyce excluded him from the senior team for the game against Slovakia, instead leaving him for U21 selection - it’s crazy to think how Dembele and Kapi will be looked after by their respective clubs.
Both players will revert to the academy teams, but that certainly doesn’t mean they will remain out of the spotlight.
