The Golden State Warriors may have scuppered the chance to record the best season in NBA history as they lost in the finals 4-3 to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but every cloud has a silver lining.

Losing in dramatic fashion has somewhat led to the organisation securing the services of Kevin Durant after his contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder expired.

There has been much debate about whether the 2014 Most Valuable Player would have joined the Warriors had they made it back-to-back championships in the summer, and speaking to the media Durant said he was happy they lost.

It made his decision a lot easier.

It seems Durant was always keen to join the 2015 champions - who wouldn't be with a roster that includes Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green? - but their loss to the Cavaliers made the call a lot simpler.

Despite the fact his image in the eyes of NBA fans has changed dramatically since he joined an already stacked team, imagine the reaction if he had joined the two-time champions.

A tweet by Anthony Slater shows Durant talking about his reaction to the game seven loss.
