Up until this past Sunday night, fans genuinely had no idea whether Dolph Ziggler was going to capture the Intercontinental Championship from The Miz.
There was a lot at stake, with Ziggler putting his career on the line and on paper, it seemed as if it was going to be a no-brainer.
However, that wasn’t the case as at one point it looked as if the Show Off was on his way out.

We had Ric Flair suggesting he was going to take on a backstage role, while other outlets claimed he was going to focus on comedy and other work outside of the ring.
It went as far as cable companies being told that SmackDown Live would be losing Ziggler, and that’s exactly what they started to advertise.
As we now know, Ziggler defeated The Miz for the crown and for the first time in a while, Ziggler is relevant again.
However, that may not be the case for long.
While the WWE did a great job of making Ziggler look borderline desperate for the title, gaining sympathy from the fans at the same time, it doesn’t mean they’re going to keep him as the Intercontinental Champion for too long.
RingSideNews.com are reporting that Ziggler could be dropping the championship relatively soon to The Miz. It could come as early as the next episode of SmackDown Live, the next pay-per-view or whenever the rematch between the pair takes place.
This is obviously good news for The Miz, and his ability to draw heat, as another quick win over Ziggler keeps him as one of the best heels on the roster as he did the same thing to Zack Ryder earlier this year, one night after he captured the title at WrestleMania.
It’s unclear what the long-term plans could be with Ziggler, if the rumours are true. If he does go ahead and drop it, he may come back to square one and face a tough fight to be relevant again.
