WWE announced earlier this year that the 2017 Royal Rumble will return to The Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas for the first time in two decades.
The announcement has been followed by rumours of many Texas-based superstars including Stone Cold Steve Austin, Sting and The Undertaker all returning to WWE for the event.
Shawn Michaels was at the top of that list, but it seems the rumours concerning The Heartbreak Kid are much more than mere speculation.

SAN ANTONIO HISTORY
Not only is San Antonio Shawn Michaels' hometown, but The Alamodome is also the place that Michaels defeated Sycho Sid back in 1997 to win the WWE Championship.
Michaels has recently began working as a fill in trainer for WWE and has relocated from San Antonio to Orlando for a short time whilst working at the Performance Centre, but it seems WWE are hoping to tie the former World Champion down to something much more permanent.
The company have attempted to lure Michaels back for a final match many times, most notably for WrestleMania 32 earlier this year which was also in Texas but Michaels is happily enjoying his retirement and has turned down all offers so far.
ONCE IN A LIFETIME
WWE are hoping that offering Michaels a match that he can't refuse will give him much more incentive to return to the company for one more match. He noted that he would return for one more match if the idea made sense, rather than as just a spur of the moment addition.
It seems that the current plan would be for the Hall of Famer to take on AJ Styles in a match that would likely be for the WWE Championship.
This would be labelled as a 'once in a lifetime' match and would definitely help WWE sell out The Alamodome if Michaels agrees.
