Last week on Monday Night Raw Chris Jericho was given the opportunity to fight for a place in the main event match at Hell in a Cell at the end of the month.

It was speculated that Jericho was set to be added to the match along with his best friend Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins, but Jericho was defeated by Rollins and this ended his hopes of fighting for the Universal Championship for the first time.

But now it seems that Jericho was set to be involved in the match but when it was decided that it would take place inside the cell structure, Jericho was taken out and it was instead made a one-on-one bout.

SPECIAL GUEST REFEREE?

According to a report by The Inquisitr, Jericho was supposed to be a part of the main event match and it should have been a triple threat for the Universal Championship. Now the plan could be that Jericho is added to the match as the special guest referee.

Jericho himself revealed in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, that there is so much more to come from him and Kevin Owens.

"I think the storyline with Kevin Owens and Jericho is just beginning. I think there’s a lot of legs to this storyline and it’s one of the rarest of things. It’s a storyline that basically built organically that was never supposed to be a storyline. I had that with Shawn Michaels in 2008 and Rey Mysterio in 2009.

"We just end up with this present, this great chemistry between KO and I. A lot of intrigue and mystery. A lot of interest from the people watching from the WWE Universe. I am really looking forward to seeing what’s going to happen at Survivor Series, Hell in a Cell and continuing forward. I think there’s a lot in the tank for Jericho and Owens. Especially from what’s transpired so far.”

BIG THINGS TO COME?

Y2J has to leave WWE in the near future once again to tour with his band Fozzy as they promote their new album, which means that his Hell in a Cell involvement could be one of his final appearances in the company for a while.

Jericho has become one of the best characters in WWE over the past few months and fans will be sad to see him disappear off  TV screens for an undetermined amount of time.

Luckily, it seems WWE are hoping to see him go out with a bang as he continues to be a part of the brewing feud between Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens, which has recently included Stephanie McMahon and Triple H as well.
