In the end, Liverpool v Manchester United failed to justify the immense pre-match hype.

It proved to be a war of attrition, fairly low on quality, and certainly low on entertainment.

David de Gea provided the moment of the match in the second half, producing a fabulous one-handed save to earn the visitors a deserved point, while Ander Herrera was the game’s outstanding player.

However, the match was summed up by a shocking passage of play during the final minute of stoppage time.
