Thomas Muller, as well as being a fine player for Bayern Munich and Germany, has long been seen as one of the biggest jokers in football.
That reputation has been built thanks in part to a few funny videos involving the 27-year-old that have gone viral in recent seasons. Arguably the most eye-catching of those being Muller's apparent attempts to imitate Cristiano Ronaldo's famous dribbling style in a Bayern training session.
The clip - seen further down this article - has been legendary amongst football fans. However, speaking in a recent interview on Sports Illustrated's Planet Futbol podcast, Muller revealed the truth behind the whole thing.

First the video in question. We're sure you've all seen it...
Watching Muller's exaggerated flicks and dribbling style, you can certainly see why people immediately assumed the Germany international was trolling Ronaldo. After all, the Real Madrid star isn't averse to the odd showboating moment.

As it turns out, though - despite the footage having been doing the rounds for well over a year - Muller wasn't actually imitating the multi-time Balon d'Or winner.
"It was funny, this video", Muller told SI's Grant Wahl. "The funny thing is this video was made after a meeting with Pep Guardiola (then the Bayern Munich manager).
"He introduced us for the game against Shakhtar Donetsk and I was imitating not Cristiano Ronaldo, but Douglas Costa.
"I didn't know that he is moving to us in the next season so when I look back to this video and see my teammate now, it is much more funny."
The video above is already football comedy gold and, if anything, Muller's revelation actually makes it even better.
It is one thing to joke about a rival player's playing style, but to do it for a player who is now a fellow member of the Bayern squad raises the awkwardness stakes through the roof.
We're assuming that, considering Muller was so happy to reveal the brilliant truth behind the viral footage, that Costa doesn't mind about his dribbling technique being the butt of the jokes.
Or, perhaps, his German teammate just hasn't got round to telling him he was the real target of the famous footage.
While Muller might be happy to joke about the likes of Costa's skills, he can't complain too much. Having the Brazilian as a teammate since 2015 has helped Bayern continue their dominant reign in the Bundesliga after all.
