Manuel Locatelli announced himself to the world with a stunning goal - the winning goal - for AC Milan against Juventus at the weekend.
The Italian midfielder, who made his professional debut towards the end of last season, rifled an angled shot into the top corner of the net past the great Gianluigi Buffon to earn his side all three points.
It was a magnificent goal, one worthy of winning any match, and it will be fascinating to see how the teenager’s career develops over the coming months and years.
Locatelli scored his first Serie A goal in Milan’s 4-3 win over Sassuolo earlier this month.
He was sent on by manager Vincenzo Montella as a 60th-minute substitute for Riccardo Montolivo, who received a message on Facebook from the talented starlet back in 2012.
Locatelli's FB message with Montolivo
Locatelli was aged just 14 when he sent the following message to the player he now calls a teammate.
For those unable to speak Italian - like us - the message says: "I want to be just like you”.
The Italy Under-19 international’s dream of playing alongside Montolivo has come true and he appears to be the natural successor for the experienced former Fiorentina man.
Milan have recently unearthed a couple of gems
With 17-year-old goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma also in the Milan squad, the Rossoneri have unearthed two gems who look set to reach the top of their professions with both club and country.
Milan are not currently the force they once were - but if they can retain the likes of Locatelli and Donnarumma, don’t rule the Italian giants out from re-establishing their status as a European powerhouse.
