Cristiano Ronaldo has made a career out of rinsing opposing defenders and goalkeepers.
It’s what he does. Football fans around the world have been treated to Ronaldo’s tricks and goals ever since Manchester United signed him in 2003.
Like the perennial winner who finally realises what it’s like to lose, Ronaldo doesn’t react too well when he’s left embarrassed on a football pitch.
He threw his toys out of the pram during a recent Real Madrid training session.
After being nutmegged by Danilo in a rondo, Ronaldo took offence to Marcelo celebrating the skill and proceeded to boot the ball into the stands.
Ronaldo vs Marcelo
That incident wasn’t the first time the Portugal star has cut a frustrated figure in Madrid training. During a warm-up session for their Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund last month, he produced reckless tackles on Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.
There must be something about rondos that Ronaldo just doesn’t like, for the 31-year-old reacted sourly while participating in the drill on Friday.
The catalyst for Ronaldo’s reaction - a diving tackle at the feet of a teammate - was being nutmegged by Pepe.
To be honest, we wouldn’t be too happy if we were humiliated by a burly centre back either.
Zinedine: He's angry, possibly
It’s been quite a while since Ronaldo endured such a disappointing run of form. To your average forward, two goals in seven appearances is disappointing but not anything to cry about. To Ronaldo? It’s disastrous.
“He doesn’t seem anxious, but possibly angry,” Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane admitted, via AS. “He wants to score goals and that’s normal. He’s unique in what he has done and what he does.
“He’s raised his level so high that when he doesn’t score people on the outside are surprised. He has to live with that, it’s what the phenomenal players have to do.”
The sooner Ronaldo starts scoring regularly - and the smile returns to his face - the better. The ankles of his Los Blancos teammates are in jeopardy at the moment.
