After they beat Manchester 4-0 at Camp Nou two weeks ago, many believed Barcelona were good enough to get a similar result in the return fixture.
That looked the case after Lionel Messi finished off a flowing move to put them 1-0 up half-way through the first-half.
But in truth, Pep Guardiola’s side were the better team throughout and deservedly grabbed an equaliser when Raheem Sterling squared to Ilkay Gundogan to apply the finish.
Further goals from Kevin de Bruyne and another from Gundogan secured the three points for City and give them a fantastic chance of progressing into the last-16.
However, that’s not to say Barcelona didn’t have their chances during the second period.
The best of those fell to Andre Gomes after brilliant build-up play by Luis Suarez.
The Uruguayan forward just loves nutmegging players - so much so that Liverpool fans once made a banner which suggested he could nutmeg a mermaid.
And, with 25 minutes remaining and Barcelona looking for an equaliser, Suarez did just that on Nicolas Otamendi.
The City defender foolishly dived in on Suarez who humiliated him by knocking the ball through his legs.
Take a look at the lovely piece of skill below:
Otamendi could only look on as Suarez went on to square the ball for Gomes who looked set to equalise from 18-yards. However, the Portuguese international could only smash the ball against the crossbar as Otamendi and City breathed a huge sigh of relief.
City capitalised on Gomes’ inability to score as they went on to grab all three points. It leaves them just two points behind the Spanish giants with two matches remaining in the group as they seek to finish first in the group - something which will likely hand them an easier tie in the last-16.
