Gareth Bale recently signed a contract extension at Real Madrid until 2022.
However much Los Blancos are paying him - reported to be £350,000-per-week, after tax - he’s certainly deserving of it.
The Welshman scored his fifth goal of the season against Legia Warsaw in truly ridiculous fashion.
A minute hadn’t even passed when Bale crashed the ball beyond Arkadiusz Malarz with a stunning volley.
It’s a shame there was nobody inside Legia’s stadium to witness it.
The match is being played behind closed doors due to the Polish club’s stadium ban. Crowd trouble marred September’s clash against Borussia Dortmund and Legia were charged by UEFA as a result.
Bale’s goal, Real Madrid’s fastest in Champions League history, was certainly worthy of an audience. Check it out below.
Twitter, inevitably, went pretty mental.
It is hoped, at the Bernabeu, that Bale will take up the throne when Cristiano Ronaldo moves on.
Who could argue that he doesn’t look ready now?
Hoddle: Bale deserves every penny
Former Tottenham boss Glenn Hoddle believes the 27-year-old deserves his mega pay rise, which makes him the world’s third-highest paid footballer..
“I think top players in sport, any sport, deserve their money,” Hoddle said, via The Sun. “For me, whatever Bale is getting he deserves it.
“He’s done fantastic. He’s been brilliant because when he went I thought, 'He is a shy lad' and I wondered whether he would be able to cope with it on and off the pitch. But he has done marvellous.”
