Thanks to the NBA schedule, fans didn't have to wait long to see one of the most eagerly anticipated showdowns of the season as former teammates Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook squared off for the first time since the former's departure from the Oklahoma City Thunder to Golden State Warriors.

KD's move to Oakland and the apparent breakdown of his relationship with Westbrook was a story that dominated headlines during the offseason and has continued into the new campaign too.

Durant and the Warriors took care of business on the court as they routed the Thunder 122-96, with the 2014 MVP posting a game-high 39 points against his former employers.

It was Russ, however, who had the main talking point off the court, particularly on social media, due to his pre-game attire.

The walking triple-double has become famous for his wacky outfits and unique fashion sense during his time in the league and his latest was seen as a dig at Durant.

The point guard arrived at the Oracle Arena wearing an orange vest that said "Official Photographer."

To many people that won't mean anything, but for anybody who knows Durant would be aware that photography is one of his big hobbies off the court. He also wrote about this on The Players' Tribune in November 2015.

To those who remember, the small forward was a credentialed photographer at Super Bowl 50 earlier this year and the following video shows Westbrook making fun of him discussing it with reporters just days later.

Of course, it didn't take Twitter long to jump on this and revel in Westbrook's trolling of his old friend.

Unsurprisingly, the Thunder superstar denied that it had anything to do with KD.

When asked about the connection prior to the game, Westbrook said, "Just cause I wanted to. There's no particular reason. There's no story behind it. It's just because I wanted to wear it.

"I don't wear anything for nobody. I wear what I want to wear when I want to wear it."

Oklahoma City Thunder v Golden State Warriors

The frosty relationship between the pair took another twist as they failed to acknowledge one another in any way during the encounter.

It seems anything related to the duo will make headlines at all times at the moment, so expect this story to rumble on for the entire season,
