Cristiano Ronaldo has cut a very unusual figure in Real Madrid training sessions this season.
He’s frequently looked distressed, lunging into two-footed tackles and booting footballs away when things aren’t going away.
Quite why the Portugal star has reason to be upset isn’t clear. An injury in the Euro 2016 final delayed his return to action, but this has been one of the best year’s in Ronaldo’s career.
He followed scoring the winning penalty in the Champions League final by captaining Portugal to glory in France.
It’s not been a bad few months, then.
Ronaldo’s spirits appeared to have been lifted by his hat-trick against Alaves last weekend, although a 3-3 draw against Legia Warsaw in midweek will have brought the 31-year-old’s rollercoaster of a mood down a few notches.
Still, he looked pretty happy in Real Madrid’s latest training session.
The former Manchester United winger has been humiliated by his teammates in recent weeks - even Danilo managed to nutmeg him - so it must have been nice for Ronaldo to see Fabio Coentrao suffer the embarrassment of a nutmeg.
Ronaldo’s odd reaction - an attempted kick at Coentrao’s head - shows just how much he enjoyed it.
The Portugal international made a slow start to the season, scoring four goals in his first nine games, leading Zinedine Zidane to admit he expects more from the winger.
“Everyone wants Cristiano to score three, four, five goals," Zidane said recently, via FourFourTwo. "He had many chances tonight, [but] he scored on Saturday and will score next weekend.
"We all expect more from Cristiano and he knows that. We want him to score three or four.”
