Manchester United finalised a deal to sign Dutch youngster Tahith Chong from Feyenoord in the summer.
There’s plenty of reason to be excited about the 16-year-old, and not just because of his shaggy hair.
He has already represented the Netherlands at Under-17 level and can play on the left wing and as a striker.
Chong has high expectations, too. He has sights of making the step up to United’s U21 team within a year.
“I start in Manchester in the A1 [academy] and may sometimes take part in Manchester United Under-21s," told FR12.nl, via the Mirror.
"I’ve been there a few times and I am definitely impressed by the club. United have good accommodation for youth players and it is up to me to make that step.”
For now, though, Chong will have to settle for the U18s.
He featured in the 4-1 win over Blackburn U18s on Saturday and though he wasn’t on the scoresheet, he did show off a nice piece of skill.
Man United U18s went on to win 4-1.
Of course, we shouldn’t begin the Ronaldinho comparisons just yet.
It’s simply nice to see a promising player waiting to break into the first team, a la Marcus Rashford.
Chong's highlight reel
Not a money grabber
Chong joined Feyenoord at the age of 10, and admitted there was a point when he wanted to stay longer in his home country.
"We were talking about a contract. I would have liked to stay longer at Feyenoord because it's my club," he added.
"The discussions were very vague and I had expected more of it. Only after that conversation, I went to talk to Manchester United and I chose this.
"Many people call it I do it for the money, but I’m not a money grab. I choose the sporting adventure and for me it is now time to look forward.”
He’s certainly doing that now.
