Isaiah Thomas is one of the most passionate and driven players in the NBA right now. His physical limitations have already threatened to stunt the Boston Celtics star's career, but he has overcome every hurdle to lead the most successful franchise in league history.
The 5'9 All-Star was recently praised by Kevin Garnett, who called time on his illustrious career this summer after 21 years, talking up his heart, grit and determination, saying the point guard is the player that defines a team's style.
And Thomas insists he is aiming to emulate 'The Big Ticket' with his actions on the court.
"I’m the 5-9 Kevin Garnett. That’s who I want to be," said Thomas, via ESPN. "[Garnett's praise] means a lot. For a guy I looked up to, who I knew I would be nothing like [in size], but just the way he prepared himself, the way he didn’t back down from anybody, and how he was so locked in.
"It was amazing to see that up close. For him to say that about me, that says a lot."
Garnett is a player who was never afraid to speak his mind, and Thomas appears to be growing into that role as the leader of the Celtics. He recently called out his teammates following a lacklustre start to the season that has already seen them lose three games.
If he can have half the impact that KG had then the Celtics are in good hands.
