Donald Trump shocked the world on Tuesday evening by becoming president-elect of the United States.

Few expected that the billionaire, who’s more commonly known for his reality TV and business ventures, could actually win the election. But he has, and now America must deal with it.

Neither Trump or his opposition, democrat candidate Hillary Clinton, were popular choices. America was put in the unfortunate position of having to pick their position, so regardless of who was elected, there was always going to be plenty of outrage.

Plenty of footballers weighed in on the election, too. Tottenham hero Jan Vertonghen tweeted: “Would love to speak to someone who's actually pro Trump to see what's going on in their head but I just can't find them…”

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany said: “Wtf.. Let's put all the idiots around the world in power and see what happens. Next gen reality TV. #SadWorld”, on Twitter.

Ella Masar's reaction

But Vertonghen and Kompany’s fury is nothing compared to that felt by United States Women’s winger Ella Masar.

Masar, who made one appearance for the international team in 2009, has spent the past 12 months in Sweden playing for FC Rosengard.

And since Trump’s win, she has vowed not to return to her home country during the Republican candidate’s tenure.

"I went to see Therese [Sjogran, sporting director of FC Rosengard] and asked to sign on for another four years at the club so I do not go back to the US with Donald Trump as president," Masar told Sydsvenskan, via Goal.

"I'm also happy that I even have a Canadian passport.

"I’ve actually met him once. We had to go there for an Easter dinner and I thought then that he was a scary man."

Canada’s immigration website crashed

It’ll be interesting to see what Masar does after her four years is up should Trump secure another four years in the White House at the 2020 election. By the sounds of it, she wouldn’t have a problem with moving to Canada.

It speaks volumes about Trump’s victory that Canada’s immigration website crashed when the result was announced.
