Conor McGregor did what he set out to do in Madison Square Garden by knocking out Eddie Alvarez to claim the UFC lightweight championship in New York City.

Alexander Gustaffson tweeted the thoughts many fans had during the event, saying: “Well done @TheNotoriousMMA. Now bring on @TeamKhabib for him, that’s a fight I want to see.”
McGregor’s coach, John Kavanagh, wasted no time in addressing his followers with a simple message and a selfie with the two-weight world champion, captioning it: “Ireland, we did it!”
However, not everyone seemed to be too happy with what went down, as fellow lightweight Kevin Lee posted numerous tweets, sharing his displeasure at Alvarez’s poor performance in what was his first title defence.
