Wayne Rooney has returned to Manchester United after picking up a knee injury for England and there is now a fear that he will be ruled out of the clash against Arsenal this weekend.

The England and United captain has been sidelined for the Three Lions’ friendly against Spain at Wembley on Tuesday and will return to his club to receive treatment on a "minor" knock.

Rooney played 90 minutes against Scotland on Friday evening and wasn’t expected to start against Spain. Therefore, reports are suggesting that Rooney’s injury isn’t serious and he has only returned to his club to prepare for his side’s massive fixture against the Gunners on Saturday.

However, some United fans have reacted brutally on Twitter. Despite striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic being suspended for the Arsenal match, numerous Red Devils are hoping Rooney’s injury is bad enough to keep him out of the match against Arsene Wenger’s side.

The main reason for their joy is the hope that they could see Marcus Rashford play down the middle against Arsenal during the Saturday lunchtime kick-off, rather than Rooney.

Take a look at some of the reaction below:

Rooney has been dropped by both club and country this season and has struggled for consistent form. It has led to reports suggesting his United career could be coming to an end this summer.

The Telegraph suggest that he is the subject of ‘serious interest’ from new MLS start up franchise Los Angeles FC. The report claims that Rooney is high on Los Angeles’ list of targets as they hope to attract a global star before they join the MLS in March 2018.

And judging by the reaction by some United fans after his latest injury, they will be more than happy to see him leave for the United States.
