Wayne Rooney is in the midst of one of his more unusual seasons at Manchester United.

First, there were the position changes, the lack of goals, and the rumours that he could finally be on his way out of the Theatre of Dreams after 12 long years.

This week's been a little more interesting, with crashed weddings, drinks flowing, and apologies aplenty.

The 31-year-old clearly enjoys an alcoholic beverage as much as the next man, but because of his role as United and England skipper, his weekend antics have received a huge amount of attention.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was among those to leap to the former Everton star's defence, telling reporters that even some of football's biggest legends "drank like devils".

While sections of the press - and of course, some opposition fans - have been laying into Rooney, he can at least rely on his biggest supporters, the Old Trafford faithful, to lend him support.

Interesting timing 

Compared to some Premier League stars, he might not be the most prolific social media user, but you have to wonder if he knew exactly what he was doing when he posted this on Friday afternoon:

It looks like he hasn't got a care in the world.

United fans definitely saw the funny side of it too, and it seems all they care about is whether he'll be able to help them to a much-needed three points against high-flying Arsenal.

It's fair to say he isn't usually the most popular choice for Jose Mourinho's starting line-ups these days, but his followers weren't about to turn on him just because of one night out.
