Amanda Nunes has been on a tear lately in the UFC, since losing to Cat Zingano in September 2014, she’s managed to string together four dominant victories.
A decision against Valentina Shevchenko is surrounded by a TKO triumph over Shayna Baszler, and two submission wins against Sara McMann and Miesha Tate.

The Lioness has now been handed her toughest task to date, taking on the returning Ronda Rousey at the UFC 207 event, who makes return to the Octagon after a year out of the sport since dropping the same title to Holly Holm.
Despite the bout only being announced last month, Nunes has revealed that she’s been training for an eventual showdown with Rowdy since joining the UFC in 2013.
Speaking to MMAMania.com, she said: “I didn’t really think anything [during their first ever stare down].
“I wanted to see her face when it gets real. And that was the moment; it was a big moment for me. I am very confident, and I know I am going to take this fight.
“And that moment was amazing. I don’t know how to explain it. Ever since I got into the UFC, I always thought about that fight.
“Even if I have another opponent, after I finished that fight, I trained for Ronda Rousey. At the time she was the champion; now I’m the champion, and she’s the challenger. How crazy is this?
“Ronda is really tough. But I know if I put my game, I will take this fight. We know everything Ronda brings. I know everything.
“I know everything she does good and bad. I will take this fight.”
It just goes to show the level of influence Rousey has on women’s mixed martial arts.
The face-off was a huge moment for Nunes - even if Rousey did storm off – so it would be even more special for her to share the Octagon with Rousey, and potentially even walk away with a successful first title defence.
