Ward receives board backing

Carlisle's owners have given under-fire manager John Ward a vote of confidence following the club's recent poor run of form.

The Cumbrians have endured a shocking run of eight defeats in nine games and sections of the Brunton Park faithful have in recent weeks called for Ward's resignation.

"We remain confident the current personnel at Brunton Park can lead us out of the present situation," said a statement released on the club's official website.

"Carlisle United would like to reassure all supporters that everyone at the club is continuing to work extremely hard to reverse our recent run of results.

"However, we are still in October and less than a third of the way through our League One fixtures. The club owners are fully aware of the gravity of the situation caused by recent results."
