Harry Redknapp will send out his revitalised Tottenham team against Barclays Premier League leaders Liverpool on Saturday with one simple instruction: "Get the ball to Luka Modric."
Tottenham's new manager believes the Croatian midfielder can join the pantheon of playmakers who have plied their trade at White Hart Lane and prove the key to his side climbing the table.
And, on a day when another former Tottenham player, Tim Sherwood, confirmed he was joining the coaching set-up, Redknapp said: "Modric could be a real star at this club, like he showed against England at Wembley for Croatia last year."
He added: "He has that amazing football brain. We've got to get him on the ball. He can open things up for you.
"Give him the ball. Tell the players we have got to keep supplying him. Eyal Berkovic was the same for me at West Ham and Pompey. Fantastic brain."
Redknapp revealed he had spoken to Croatia coach Slaven Bilic about Modric, who had been one of the major disappointments under former manager Juande Ramos.
"He's a special player. Bilic said he thinks he's world class, he's a talent. He wasn't getting intimidated against Arsenal," Redknapp continued.
