Darlington boss Dave Penney was delighted with his side after they scored twice in 15 minutes to condemn Grimsby to their 22nd league game without a win to move top of League Two.
Billy Clarke and ex-Grimsby midfielder Ricky Ravenhill gave visitors Darlington a dream start and the Mariners a mountain to climb though they did pull a goal back through Jon-Paul Kalala.
"It's a great result. Everybody is expecting you to win because Grimsby have not won for so long so there was a certain amount of pressure on us," he said.
Penney continued: "I thought we started the game well although to be fair we had the wind in the first half. We got a couple of goals and could have had some more.
"I was delighted to get the three points and there is now a little break before we get back into league games so it was nice to finish off with a win.
"I don't think Grimsby had any clear-cut chances. There was a shot from the edge of the box for a goal but no one got in one-on-one with our keeper."
