To suggest that Simone Zaza’s West Ham loan spell has been disappointing would be an understatement.

The 25-year-old, famous for the penalty he missed for Italy against Germany at Euro 2016, joined the Hammers on loan from Juventus in August with a view to completing a permanent transfer to the London Stadium.

According to The Sun, West Ham are locked in talks with Zaza’s advisers in the hope of removing an appearance clause in his contract.

The England club will need to pay Juve a cool £20 million, making Zaza’s loan deal a permanent move, if the striker plays another six matches.

Slaven Bilic’s plan to sign Zaza has backfired. West Ham fans have been left bitterly disappointed by the Italian’s performances and they were left with their head in the hands after watching his hilariously bad attempt at goal against Manchester United on Wednesday night.

Zaza entered the fray as a 76th-minute substitute, in place of Dimitri Payet, and produced the worst shot of the season six minutes later.

Zaza then swapped shirts with Zlatan

West Ham fans were further angered by Zaza after the forward swapped shirts with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, scorer of two of United’s goals, at full-time.

Zaza has made 11 appearances for West Ham in all competitions and is still looking for his first goal for the club.
