Alnwick blow for Cumbrians

Published Add your comment

Beleaguered Carlisle have been rocked by the news Tottenham have withdrawn permission for on-loan goalkeeper Ben Alnwick to feature in this weekend's FA Cup tie.

The Cumbrians play Blue Square Premier outfit Grays at Brunton Park on Saturday but will be forced to recall Ben Williams after new Spurs boss Harry Redknapp reviewed the terms of Alnwick's loan.

Caretaker manager Greg Abbott told the club's official website: "I can understand the decision. Harry has only just taken over and he would not want to risk having a player in a cup-tied situation when he hasn't yet finished assessing the squad."

He added: "We can accept that and we don't see it as a problem as we have Ben Williams waiting to step up and take up the challenge for us once more."
