Southampton striker Jamie White has joined League Two side Shrewsbury on a one-month loan deal.

White, who has made two first-team starts for the Saints, has been in top form for the reserves with hat-tricks against Millwall and Plymouth, and boss Jan Poortvliet feels this is a great opportunity for the young forward.

"There were a couple of teams interested in taking him and after speaking with their [Shrewsbury's] manager we decided that they were the best team, because they play attacking football," Poortvliet told the club's official website.

"We think this is the best thing for him to do as he will get the chance to play and I think that that is what he is missing at the moment.

"He's been doing a very good job in our reserve team but at the moment I think we have a lot of people who can play in the hole for us and he needs a little more experience in competitive games, so we shall see how he does after a month or so.

"It is a good move for us and for him because he will bring that experience back to Southampton with him."
