Tranmere have signed defender John Johnson on loan from Middlesbrough until December 31.

The 20-year-old, who came through the youth ranks at the Riverside Stadium, signed his first professional contract in the summer and made his Premier League debut against Chelsea last month. He is available for selection for Rovers' home game against Scunthorpe.

"John is a talented young right-back who is comfortable on the ball and likes to get forward," Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore told the club`s official website.

"He is a good passer of the ball who gets crosses into the box and he is also capable of playing centre-back if needed," he added.

"I would like to thank Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate for allowing one of his most promising youngsters to join us for a month."
