Gerrard in contention

Published Add your comment

Steven Gerrard trained on Tuesday and is back in the Liverpool squad for Wednesday's Champions League group D qualifier at home to Marseille.

Gerrard missed Saturday's draw with Fulham after sustaining a groin muscle tear the previous weekend against Bolton. But manager Rafael Benitez has yet to decide whether his captain can play the full 90 minutes against the French side.

Liverpool have only long-term injured duo Philipp Degen and Martin Skrtel on the sidelines. Xabi Alonso, substitute on Saturday, is expected to return.
