Matt Henney's goal sent non-league Barrow into the FA Cup third round with a 2-1 victory over Coca-Cola League Two side Brentford.

The game turned on its head in the 36th minute when Bees goalkeeper Ben Hamer brought down Jason Walker in the area and was dismissed, David Brown stepping up to slot home from the spot.

Brentford levelled in the 50th minute when Sam Wood's deflected cross fell at the feet of Charlie MacDonald, who poked the ball into the net. But the Blue Square Premier strugglers regained the lead in the 71st minute as Henney flicked home from a left-wing cross.

Macclesfield beat Port Vale 3-1 in their second-round tie at Vale Park.

The visitors took the lead in the ninth minute when Francis Green fired home following Martin Gritton's header, but Louis Dodds (71) briefly pulled Vale level.

The Silkmen were not to be denied, though, and clinched a place in the third round after goals from Green (73) and Gritton (90).
