Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has lavished high praise on new acquisition Scott Sinclair and believes "he'll bring a breath of fresh air to the squad".

Blues beat off competition from several rival clubs to sign the exciting 19-year-old winger on an initial one-month loan deal from Chelsea, and McLeish could not hide his delight at capturing a player he has had his eye on since last summer.

"I believe we've brought in a player who is young, hungry and talented," he told the club's official website. "In the loan spells he has already had in the Championship he has shown his ability and, given the chance to play regularly, I think it could be his time to really push on."

He added: "Scott has the versatility to play on either wing and is quick and direct. I've watched him and have seen his ability to play in different systems, showing a good maturity for such a young player. I've spoken to him and I like his determination and bit of fire that he has in his personality.

"I asked about Scott last summer but Mr Scolari understandably wanted to assess all his young players between summer and January.

"He'll bring a breath of fresh air to the squad and I look forward to introducing him to the rest of the lads."
