Blackburn midfielder Brett Emerton has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a cruciate knee ligament problem.
The Australia international was injured in Saturday's goalless draw at Middlesbrough and will now have surgery, which is likely to keep him out for six months.
Conveniently, Rovers have just signed El-Hadji Diouf from Sunderland and he can take Emerton's place wide on the right. However, manager Sam Allardyce will be ruing the loss of one of his more versatile players as the club continues to fight against relegation from the Barclays Premier League.
