Reading director of football Nicky Hammond has spoken of his delight after star midfielder Stephen Hunt agreed terms on a new contract with the club.

Hunt was linked with a number of Premier League sides in the January transfer window, but will now put pen to paper on a new deal with the Royals which will keep him at the Madejski Stadium until the summer of 2012.

Hammond told the club`s official website: "I've been speaking to Hunty regularly throughout the transfer window and we are delighted to agree this new contract."

He added: "He is a key member of our squad and we look forward to him playing a central role in our push for promotion back to the Premier League in the next few months."
