Glenn Hoddle believes Chelsea have made a wise decision in appointing Guus Hiddink as their temporary manager until the end of the season.
Hoddle, who enjoyed success as a player and manager at Stamford Bridge, believes the Dutchman has the necessary qualities to get the Blues back on track following the surprise sacking of Luiz Felipe Scolari on Monday. However, he admits he is unsure as to whether Hiddink will be able to combine the role with his duties as national coach of Russia.
"I think it will be slightly harder for him than when he did Australia and PSV together - and that's no disrespect to those teams," Hoddle told PA Sport.
He added: "Chelsea are a big club to run like that (as one of two jobs) but that's how the owner (Roman Abramovich) wants things.
"I do think he's a very good appointment. I've never worked with him, but if you look at his career, wherever he's gone he's done very well.
"He's also got plenty of experience so if he's got the materials - and the materials at Chelsea are going to be better than at most clubs - you should think that it would be a match made in heaven.
"But then again, everyone was telling me that about Scolari. It's a strange game and you never quite know what will happen."
