Baptiste wants first-team stay

Blackpool defender Alex Baptiste admits the fierce competition for places at Bloomfield Road is keeping him on his toes.

The summer signing from Mansfield has made the right-back slot his own in the last three games and scored his first goal for the club in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Ipswich, but the 23-year-old is refusing to get complacent and knows he must keep performing if he is to stay in the side.

"Obviously I am delighted to be in the team," he said. "But I know I will have to keep working hard and training hard because there is a lot of competition for places."

He added: "When I was left out of the team it made me more determined to train well and get the shirt back, so everyone has to carry on working hard and doing well or they will lose their place in the team."
