Bojinov is back

Luckless Manchester City striker Valeri Bojinov has hit the comeback trail again.

The £6million Bulgarian front man ruptured cruciate knee ligaments in only his third game for the Blues, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2007-08 campaign. Then he suffered a severe Achilles tendon injury which consigned him to another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Happily the 23-year-old is ready to resume his career and featured in a reserve team defeat against Hull on Tuesday night.

If Bojinov could get somewhere near his top form, it would provide City manager Mark Hughes with a timely lift.

Once the youngest player to be transferred into Serie A, Bojinov lost his way after leaving Lecce for Fiorentina and was hoping life at City would reignite his career when Sven-Goran Eriksson made his move 18 months ago.

Instead, he has been restricted to just four appearances, with his only first-team outing this term coming as a second-half substitute in the home UEFA Cup qualifying defeat to Midtjylland in August.
