Sturrock stands firm

Under-pressure Plymouth manager Paul Sturrock vowed to fight on despite watching his side slip further into the relegation battle with a 3-1 defeat by Crystal Palace.

It was the Pilgrims' third consecutive loss and came against a Palace side who, like them, had not won since Boxing Day.

However, Sturrock said: "I am here until I am told otherwise. I intend to be here for the long haul and as I have said before I am up for the challenge because I knew that this season it was never going to be easy.2

He added: "I have not been relegated before as a manager and don't intend to be now. We have got to turn things around and I am sure we can.

"Three of our next four games are at home and we have the opportunity - especially if we play like we did in the second half."

Goals from Neil Danns, Alan Lee and John Oster put Palace 3-0 ahead at the break before Gary Sawyer pulled one back for the hosts.
