Laws glad to win ugly

Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws believes his side's "ugly" win over Crystal Palace will work wonders for his players' self-belief.

The Owls had lost successive league matches to local rivals Doncaster and Barnsley before grinding out a 2-0 win over the Londoners and Laws admitted he was not concerned the game was a dour affair.

Laws said: "It wasn't about the performance it was about getting a win and making sure it wasn't three defeats on the bounce."

He added: "Wins breed confidence and I think that will breathe a bit of confidence into our side."

"We looked nervy in the first half, so getting in at half-time with a clean sheet was vital.

"We always seem to step up a gear in the second half and we passed the ball much better and started to create opportunities."
