Bristol City midfielder Brian Wilson has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery to overcome shin splints.

The 25-year-old is yet to play in 2009 after suffering the ongoing problem and made his last appearance for the Robins in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on December 28.

City boss Gary Johnson told the club`s official website: "It is good that we found out what the root of the problem was, a compartment syndrome and he`s had to have his muscle released through surgery."

He added: "It was quite aggressive surgery and he`s had metal supports put down his shins.

"He`s had the best treatment, the best people have operated on him and they are happy with how it has gone."
