Watford have confirmed that interim chairman Andy Wilson has resigned from the board with immediate effect.

Wilson took over at the helm following the shock resignation of Graham Simpson at the end of last year but has stepped down from the day-to-day running of the club.

Chief executive Julian Winter said: "Andy had always made clear his intention to pass on the chairmanship of the club as he had no desire to take on this role on an ongoing basis."

He added: "He has left in place a broad-based board with the club's best interests at heart, and it is from this pool of dedicated people that we will seek to appoint a new chair."
