Preston manager Alan Irvine paid tribute to Jon Parkin after the striker's late equaliser salvaged a 1-1 draw at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

Francis Jeffers looked to have secured the win for the Owls when he stabbed in Sean McAllister's cross after 30 minutes, but Parkin fired home left-footed from 12 yards late on to snatch a point and claim his fifth goal in seven games.

Irvine said: "He has been a fantastic presence for us and done a very good job. He has been scoring goals regularly. He is a great player for us to play off."
