There isn't much the San Antonio Spurs have not done under the guidance of future Hall of Fame coach Gregg Popovich.

The unbelievable run for the franchise has featured five NBA championships and the team clinched its 18th straight 50-win season on Wednesday.

In doing so, the Spurs also accomplished something they never have under Popovich.

Coming into the home game against the Sacramento Kings, the Spurs had already overcome a huge deficit earlier this week, coming from 16 points down to beat the Houston Rockets on Monday.

The Spurs were just getting warmed up, apparently.

In what looked at first like a throwaway loss and missed opportunity to gain a game in the race for the Western Conference's top seed with the Golden State Warriors, the Spurs turned it into overdrive and turned in a historical performance.

Against lowly Sacramento, San Antonio actually trailed 59-31 with 4:41 remaining in the first half.

To make matters more dire, the team was without stars Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge, who were sitting out to rest.

With the main headliners out, Spurs players such as David Lee, Patty Mills and 39-year-old Manu Ginobili enjoyed their time in the spotlight, lifting San Antonio to a 114-104 comeback victory.

Lee had 18 points and 10 rebounds in 32 minutes, Mills had 17 points and 10 assists off the bench, and Ginobili had a team-high 19 points, five assists and four rebounds in 25 minutes of action off the bench.

The 19-point effort was a season-high for the Argentinian, who is scoring 7.8 points per game this season.

"They took some pride in it. They wanted to win the game," Popovich said after the game, according to ESPN. "I thought the whole team effort was fantastic. Patty, Manu and David were pretty special tonight."

The 18-year streak of 50-win seasons is an NBA record, by far, with 12 by the Los Angeles Lakers serving as the old mark.

Even more amazingly, the team's last non-50-win season was in 1998-99 when a lockout shortened the season to 50 games and the Spurs won the NBA championship. San Antonio also won 56 games the previous year in 1997-98, Tim Duncan's rookie season and Popovich's second year with the Spurs.

It's been a tremendous run for Popovich and the Spurs, who have set the bar for unselfish commitment to team excellence during this era.

This year, the Spurs are now 50-13 and sit 1.5 games behind Golden State for the top seed. The teams will meet on Saturday night in San Antonio.

You can bet Leonard and Aldridge will be in action that night and that the Spurs won't be intimidated by an early deficit.
