Despite any respect you may have seen inside of the Octagon between the pair, it still seems as if Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor don’t like each other.

You can understand Nate’s frustration, as he hasn’t fought since his UFC 202 loss to the Notorious, after prevailing in the first encounter when he submitted the Irishman despite stepping in as a late replacement.

RIVALS

He’s remained vocal in wanting a trilogy fight, while McGregor has gone on to claim the lightweight championship with a win over Eddie Alvarez, and is reportedly still in talks to fight Floyd Mayweather inside of a boxing ring.

He’ll have to get in line, though, as Tyron Woodley, Tony Ferguson and Jose Aldo are just three UFC stars lobbying for a clash with the Notorious, but his focus is entirely on Mayweather.

Who knows whether that’ll even happen or not, but it understandably frustrates Nate, fight fans as well as McGregor’s potential opponents who await his return from his Octagon hiatus.

Despite that, it’s still the hottest topic in combat sports and until it happens – or we get official word that it doesn’t take place – it’ll remain that way.

Last week, Nate revealed that he’d be open to fighting the winner of the super fight, and has now been discussing what the outcome could be if McGregor and Mayweather do eventually meet.

Rather surprisingly, Nate has admitted that McGregor can shock the world if he fights Floyd, although it’d be a slim chance.

SLIM CHANCE

Speaking to Andre Ward during an appearance on CSN fights on NBC, he said: “I think it’s a big publicity stunt.

“But my take on a boxing match between the two, I think McGregor is good and he’s got a good chance to make something happen in two or three rounds. If anything, two or three rounds.

“But I think he’s got an amateur style, where he’s only got the good movement (and) good punches for six or eight minutes.

“And I think that’s too amateur for Mayweather.

McGregor might gain some confidence from his arch-rival from the MMA world backing him, despite many fighters in both principles claiming the Notorious stands no chance of defeating the 49-0 American.

Fans should be prepared for much more trash talk from both camps.

While Nate might be forced to turn his attention to McGregor’s latest victim in Alvarez after it was revealed he turned down an offer to fight the former UFC lightweight champion.
