Irvine keen for new faces

Preston manager Alan Irvine is hoping to utilise the emergency loan market to bolster his threadbare squad before Thursday's deadline.

Irvine has seen his playing resources reduced by injuries in recent weeks and skipper Paul McKenna missed last weekend's draw at Charlton because of a dead leg.

Irvine will continue making efforts to bring in new faces, and said: "I've been making a lot of phone calls, but it doesn't happen easily."

He added: "We thought we were getting close to one or two, but they didn't happen in time for Saturday's game.

"We've now got a few days to think about it and see if anything else can happen."
