WWE might have spoiled a big SmackDown WrestleMania 33 surprise

WrestleMania 33 is edging closer and although numerous plans have already been announced for the event, you can bet the WWE are going to pull out with some big surprises on April 2 – or perhaps even before that.

The aim is to make sure it goes down as the biggest show of the year, so they’ll clearly go all out in making sure fans share the same view, especially after WrestleMania 32 received mostly negative reviews.

It looks as if something could be brewing backstage over on SmackDown LIVE, and somebody from WWE’s social media team could be out of a job soon after what seems to be an accidental spoiler on their Instagram account.

The SmackDown LIVE roster was competing at Madison Square Garden over the weekend, and after Naomi was injured last month, the company had NXT Women’s Champion Asuka replace her on the card where she teamed up with Nikki Bella, Tamina and Becky Lynch to take on Carmella, Alexa Bliss, Mickie James and Natalya.

Rumours suggested that Asuka was one of the names being discussed for a main roster call-up the night after WrestleMania, but it could actually happen before that.

SmackDown general manager Daniel Bryan revealed that at WrestleMania, Alexa will defend her Women’s title against every available female star on the blue brand, and you could perhaps include Asuka as a part of that if two social media posts are anything to go by.

WWE posted an image of Asuka after the MSG event and dropped hints that she could be coming for SmackDown’s champion.

However, as Will Henderson pointed out on Twitter, WWE acted quickly to edit the caption and take out any mention of Asuka coming for the championship at WrestleMania.

That does seem quite strange that WWE felt the need to delete and then re-post the image, as that only adds intrigue and leaves fans wondering that Asuka could make a surprise appearance at the Grandest Stage of Them All.

She’s currently on a huge unbeaten run on NXT, and is set to defend her gold against Ember Moon at TakeOver, one night before WrestleMania, with many speculating that the incredible streak could end there and she’d be free to move to the main roster permanently.

However, WWE have used NXT Champions on the main roster before, with Paige and Kevin Owens both holding titles while competing on RAW.

There was also talk that Asuka could end up on the red brand to have a streak vs. streak match with Charlotte Flair, but considering she lost that at Fastlane against Bayley, it makes it easier for her to end up on SmackDown.

Whether WWE may have spoiled it or not, it will be incredible to see one of WWE’s best female stars have a huge WrestleMania moment.
