When Leicester City sacked Claudio Ranieri last month, many football fans couldn’t quite believe it.The loveable Italian led the Foxes to Premier League glory last season but was deemed not good enough less than a year later. At the time of the sacking, Leicester were in real trouble of getting relegated and had just lost 2-1 to Sevilla in their Champions League last-16 first leg.But a couple of weeks later and there aren’t too many people questioning the decision to sack Ranieri.Leicester have since won both of their Premier League matches - 3-1 against Liverpool and 3-1 against Hull City - to steer clear of the relegation zone and beat Sevilla 2-0 in their second-leg to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.Instead, the finger is being pointed at the players. After all, how can they go from a side looking as though they could be relegated under Ranieri to winning three in a row and making the last-eight of the Champions League under Craig Shakespeare? One man who is certainly baffled by the circumstances is pundit Graeme Souness. He went on an epic rant about the Leicester players on TV3 Sport after their victory over Sevilla and their behavior since winning the league.

Souness' rant

"They won the league playing that way," he said on TV3 Sport.

"When you’re a manager and you’ve won the league, are you going to turn up the next season and change things? If it ain’t broke why try and fix it?

"He would have been doing the same training, talking to them the same way, preparing for the games the same way, travelling to the games the same way – everything the same.

"Some of those players at the start of the season believed all of a sudden: 'We’re big players, we’re champions' and took their foot off the accelerator and got in their big comfy armchairs, with their Bentley in the car park and maybe changed their house. They took their foot off the accelerator.

"What does the manager [Ranieri] do then? The manager has a go at some of them – and points it out to them.

"And then he falls out with two or three of the influential players in the dressing room and then you’ve got the followers in the dressing room – all of a sudden he’s fallen out with most of the dressing room.

"That’s what I believed happened and those players that are rejoicing out there and thinking they’re back, that they’re big players.

"They’ll fall of their perch again – guaranteed – because they’ve done it once they’ll do it again – they’ll let you down again."

Twitter loved it

And, despite not being one of the most popular pundits on TV, Twitter absolutely loved Souness’ rant. Check out the best reaction:

While there’s no denying Leicester’s achievement to reach the last-eight of Europe’s elite competitions, some football fans are understandably disgruntled at their sudden improvement after Ranieri’s departure.

Winning the Premier League at 5000/1 was an incredible achievement but winning the Champions League this season could well surpass that.

Souness certainly won’t be dishing out the praise if they do the unthinkable, though.
