Crystal Palace winger Sean Scannell has been named Championship Apprentice of the Year at the Football League awards.

The 18-year-old has already made 52 first-team appearances for Palace, scoring five goals, and has been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad.

"I am very happy to win - as soon as I saw the other players I was up against I thought it would be very hard," said Scannell.

"The manager (Neil Warnock) has helped me so much, he brings out the best of you in training and his individual chats help so much when you are in a game."
