FIFA 17 has made plenty of progress in recent years and, in many eyes, they have finally overtaken Pro Evolution Soccer as the outright leader for football games.

Once upon a time, the career mode was the franchise's crutch, but in recent years, EA have concentrated more on Ultimate Team and online games.

With the addition of The Journey, the long-standing career mode seemed to fall further down the pecking order to fans, but a petition on Reddit has been started to breath new life into the mode.

As most of you will know, the conventional career mode is split into two areas – Manager Career and Player Career. The former allows you to tinker with the side, sign players, adjust budgets and send scouts around the world amongst other things, the latter is more about your progression as an individual player.

As the pressure grows on EA to expand the mode with every passing year, they have almost made it as comprehensive as possible before getting extremely meticulous with the format.

Now, gamers want the career mode to go online and a petition has started on a FIFA sub-Reddit page with hundreds of fans throwing their support behind the idea.

The gamer wrote: “A long-requested and probably one of the most requested features has been to add an online version of career mode, similar to how Madden does their Connected Franchise.

“A game mode where you could challenge your friends to fight for the Premier League title, while having bidding wars with others for players. Online would add a whole new dimension to career mode and IMO would increase the longevity of it.

“The guys working on the database and keeping it updated feel the same way, and have created a petition for our voices to be heard.

“I understand that the majority of petitions are normally useless and have no effect towards an outcome they are arguing against, but as we are working with EA, we can ensure that if we do reach the goal of 10,000 signatures that the developers will become aware of it.

“Whether or not they decide to take on board the idea and develop it is another question, but at least they will become aware of how many people want it to happen.”

It sounds like a good idea to us and having the option to go online or offline should keep everyone happy.

Bidding against your peers for players and bringing through youngsters sounds like a truckload of fun, but the longevity of the game and how many players can play could also be problematic.

If you like this idea, head over to the page and give him your support!
