Football News

Alan Shearer is to take over as Newcastle manager until the end of the season, according to reports.

BBC Sport and Sky Sports are both reporting the former England captain will return to St James' Park where he ended his career as a Magpies legend in April 2006.

Interim manager Joe Kinnear is currently recovering from heart surgery with Chris Hughton in caretaker charge.

If the reports are true, Shearer faces a tough challenge with the club currently third from bottom of the Barclays Premier League.

Shearer could take charge of the Magpies for the first time on Saturday when the Magpies host Chelsea.
